Official Launch of AGO Academy (02 Feb 2010)

Official Launch of AGO Academy by President S R Nathan on 2 Feb 2010

The AGO Academy, the official training arm of the Auditor-General’s Office (AGO), was officially launched by President S R Nathan on 2 Feb 2010. The AGO Academy is responsible for developing the overall training and development strategy and programmes for its professional staff.

There must be effective and up-to-date training for our officers to ensure their professional competency. This involves not just teaching technical skills in auditing, but also imparting knowledge on government structures and processes, and the environment in which our auditees operate." said Auditor-General Lim Soo Ping, at the launch of the AGO Academy.

The setting up of AGO Academy is a significant milestone in the 78-year history of AGO. The AGO Academy also opened some of its courses to selected public officers as AGO’s contribution to help the public sector in its efforts to be more effective and efficient in its management and use of public funds. Some of the programmes are also open to AGO’s overseas counterparts.

We were honoured to have Mr Cedric Foo, Chairman of Public Accounts Committee, Mr Eddie Teo, Chairman of Public Service Commission, Mr Chee Keng Soon, Singapore’s first Auditor-General, as well as other guests from the public service and academics to attend the official launch.

In addition to the official launch of AGO Academy, the President also presented certificates to the 26 participants of the first run of the AGO-NUS Executive Programme in Performance Audit. This joint programme between the AGO Academy and NUS Business School was introduced in 2009 and seeks to equip auditors with knowledge of organisational processes and the techniques and skills to carry out performance audits on a wide range of government programmes and activities, to evaluate whether public funds have been used economically, efficiently and effectively.

The President also presented long service medals to Audit Director Mrs Chee-Lim Juay Hiang and Assistant Director Ashari Nasuhiyah. Auditor-General Lim Soo Ping also received his Civil Service Long Service Award for 35 years of service from the President.

In addition, 15 of our newly confirmed officers took the National Auditor’s Pledge.

The event ended with a tour of the AGO Academy facilities and AGO office.
